Understanding The Female Life Cycle

Understanding where you in The Female Life Cycle can bring clarity to what will create fulfillment and happiness now and un-cover hidden (or known) fears about been seen and being successful in the ways that are important to you.

It is also an opportunity to heal and restore previous phases that you didn’t get to experience fully or had trauma impede the phase.

Our culture and society has historically valued youth and diminished women’s worth as they age.  The truth is that when we are young, we are fairly impressionable and insecure, and still learning about ourselves. (This is why media targets young girls so much.)

There is nothing truly more valuable about youth, and believing it is more desirable can keep you stuck from experiencing the fullness of your life (and being successful!)

The Mother/Creatrix phase, generally around age 26-49, begins when a woman begins “creating” in the world, whether it’s babies, business, or art. This is the time of her life she is meant to be fully expressed and expansive. This phase can be halted if she is afraid of being seen, afraid of aging (what comes after this phase), or afraid of being responsible for her life.

If she does not allow herself to bloom fully, she may experience regret and grief in the phases that come next. Fully embracing your Mother/Creatrix phase is important for the over-well fulfillment of your life!

The more women that bring this knowledge and wisdom into their homes, families and community, the more happy women there will be. Men, women and children all benefit.

  • Maiden

    Exploration, Play and Curiosity

    Approximately age 12-25

    The Maiden phase begins around the time a girl starts her period. This phase is a time when she is learning about herself and the world. She may have a zest for life, loving adventure and play. This time is symbolic of innocence, curiosity, fun, and exploration. She is learning what she likes and doesn’t like, but is also very susceptible to the beliefs and judgements of those around her. If she experienced trauma during her Maiden phase, she may need to bring healing and restoration to Inner Maiden and/or Inner Child to fulfill on this phase fully. The Inner Maiden is always within a woman, even as she moves to the next phases. If you experience a healthy Maiden phase, or integrate your Inner Maiden as you learn about this, you will feel a sense of fun and play always available within you.

  • Mother/Creatrix

    Sharing her gifts, birthing and raising babies and projects

    Approximately age 26-49. The Mother/Creatrix phase begins when a woman begins taking responsibility for her life, and choosing to create in the world. She may chooses to start a family, a business, or to share her gifts and talents in a unique way. It is a busy season and is easy to burnout if she doesn’t understand her cyclical nature, knowing when to take action and when to rest. She thrives when she allows herself to blossom fully and be seen. She can get stuck if she is still idealizing youth, is afraid of aging and what comes in the later phases of her life, or is not able to express herself fully. This is the peak of a woman’s life, and unconsciously we may know that the moment we reach our peak, we slow begin moving towards death. If we resist our full blossoming, we can’t avoid what’s to come, we will feel stuck and won’t experience true fulfillment.

  • Maga/Healer

    Giving to the Community, Receiving the Rewards of the Mother/Creatrix Phase

    Approximately age 50-70. This phase begins around the time a woman goes through menopause and her monthly cycle completes. She is now free from the hormonal cycle and the energy that once went to preparing for new life can now be used elsewhere. She has now gained all of the wisdom and experience from her mother/creatrix phase and may feel inspired to mentor younger generations or share her work in new ways. She may also be slowing down and slowly turning more inward. She thrives when she is proud of how she lived her mother/creatrix phase, and when she allows herself to tap into the wisdom she has gained.

  • Crone/Wise Woman

    Stillness

    Approximately age 71+. This time begins when a woman feels an internal shift, feeling called to move more internal, to slow down, and to simply be. She may still be involved with family and community, but is much more inward and interested in connecting to nature, the spirit realm and is at peace with death.

  • Transition

    Moving between phases

    When you are moving into a new phase, you may experience an in-between phase where you feel a little off-kilter and unsure of yourself and what you’re experiencing. It is a time to let go and trust that even though things aren’t clear now, life is moving you in the right direction and it is temporary.

  • Going through the Cycles a second, third or fourth time

    Repeating the Cycles

    It is possible that if you cycle through all the phases, you may begin newly with the maiden phase, no matter your age. There are many woman in their 70’s and 80’s that are youthful, energetic, and begin exploring and playing newly. In order for this to organically happen, you must move through all phases, including accepting death and stillness.

    Going through the Cycles a second, third or fourth time

There are key characteristics in each phase to support a woman to thrive and that can keep a woman stuck.

Each phase is unique, and resisting or clinging to any of them can keep you stuck as well.

If you are in the Mother/Creatrix phase and feel you have some healing to do from the Maiden phase, it may be a beautiful time to do some inner child work and to connect with the things that brought you joy when you were young.

I work mostly with women in the Mother/Creatrix phase and some of the most common factors keeping them stuck are fear of being seen, fear of letting go of the maiden phase, and not feeling safe to express herself.

Fearing death is fearing life. When you accept death, you accept life and a vibrant aliveness can infuse your life. Making peace with what will come next, including growing older and knowing you can still feel valuable, sexy and confident at any age, will bring a fullness and aliveness to your life now.
